London Dry Gin
Working off a neutral base spirit that has already been distilled to over 96% ABV, London Dry Gin must be (re)distilled to at least 70% ABV. It can only be diluted to a minimum strength of 37.5% and must contain no artificial ingredients and only a minute amount of sweetener and cannot have any flavour or colour added after distillation.
London Dry Gin is a top selling variety of gin. According to the BBC, it is the favourite pre-lunch drink of Queen Elizabeth II.
Sloe Gin
Sloe Gin is a classic British gin first created in England in the 19th century, which enjoyed great popularity among ladies in the Victorian era. Sloe Gin is made from sloe berries, which have a similar taste to ripe plums and are traditionally picked during July to August every year and brewed until Christmas Eve.
The traditional way of making sloe gin is to soak the sloes in gin. Sugar is required to ensure the sloe juice is extracted from the fruit. Old Tom Gin
Old Tom Gin has a sweet taste. Its name comes from the wooden plaques shaped like a black cat (an "Old Tom") mounted on the outside wall of pubs in 18th-century England. During the Gin Craze, the government tried to stem the flow of gin with prohibitive taxes and licensing, which drove the scene underground. Under the Old Tom sign, pubs installed a slot to put money in and a lead tube. From the tube would come a shot of gin, poured by the bartender inside the pub.
Navy Gin
Navy Gin must be at least 57% ABV. It was originally drunk by sailors to ward off malaria and scurvy while at sea. To test the strength of Navy Gin, some officers poured it onto gunpowder – if the gunpowder smoked or failed to light, this was a sign that the gin was diluted.
Gin and Tonic
The simplest way to enjoy globally-renowned UK gin is a gin and tonic This is a highball cocktail made solely gin and tonic water poured over ice. The classic gin martini is one of the world's most famous cocktails. It is made with 1/2 ounce London dry gin and 1/2 ounce dry vermouth, and garnished with 1 or 3 olives or a lemon twist. Stir for 30 seconds and it is ready to enjoy.
